vegaroo! is a community hub for vegans in Australia. You can read our blog for news, restaurant reviews, product reviews, and more. Our restaurant guide features vegan dining options in five major Australian cities. Our events listings and “Get Involved!” page provide resources on how you can connect with fellow vegans, volunteer and do all kinds of good things.
Sharon is the founder and editor of vegaroo! She has been vegan since 2005, vegetarian since 2001 and thinks about food on pretty much a constant basis — cooking it and finding new places to consume it. She also founded Veg Table and has written roughly one bazillion other blogs. She is a wannabe web-nerd, which is maybe one of the saddest nerds of them all. She loves exploring her new city of Sydney, practising her Aussie spelling, and singing along to the Glee soundtrack to the dismay of her neighbours
Jim is a vegaroo! contributor who has been vegan just since 2009, but manages to already excel at making vegan mushroom pie and oreo truffles. He usually eats 2-3 dinners per night, and it’s quite possible there is a tape worm living inside him. When not eating, he enjoys listening to La Bouche, reminiscing about Skate 2000, and Rick Astley impersonations. Jim was born to be a fighter.
Mandee is a vegaroo! contributor who has been vegan since 2006. In 2007 she started Cupcake Kitteh. She enjoys baking cupcakes and reading books and often wishes there was a way to combine both activities without disastrous results. If she’s not in the kitchen you’ll find her photographing food, cuddling her two cats or re-watching her favourite tv shows over and over again.
Tim is a contributor of words and tech skillz for vegaroo! He has been vegan since 1996 which makes him feel both awesome and old. He spends his days as a software developer for a very cool Aussie company, and his nights mostly cleaning up after his cranky cat. He is trying to seek out and try all of the vegan beer made in Australia and New Zealand, one glass at a time.
Elizabeth is a vegaroo! contributor. She has been vegan for a dozen years and tries to live in accordance with values that respect other animals – including people – and the earth. Despite rumours to the contrary, that still allows for some fun along the way.
Sean is a vegaroo! contributor who lives for vegan food, beer and pop music. He has been vegan since 1999 and enjoys eating cruelty-free cuisine in various locations around the planet. He is currently enjoying most of his meals in Brisbane, Queensland. When he can drag himself away from over-eating, Sean hits the books at university where he is a Primary Education student. Él está aprendiendo español también.
Sarah is a vegaroo! contributor. She has been vegan since 2006, vegetarian since 1994 and is obsessed with consuming food, making food and feeding food to others. She is an American who moved to Perth in 2008 and is also the Deputy Coordinator for Animal Rights Advocates. In addition to being vegan and American, she completes the trifecta of reasons to dislike her by working as an environmental scientist. As a result, she tends to spend her free time not with friends, but reading books, campaigning, working out and trying to convince people that Perth isn’t that bad and, no, they shouldn’t move to Melbourne.
Stephanie is a vegaroo! contributor who has been vegan since 2007, and leapt straight into it, trying to document how great a place Perth could be for vegans, and writing about being vegan and Malaysian-Chinese and living in Perth at Vegan About Town. She soon gave up, and in 2009 moved to Melbourne, where it’s a lot easier to be vegan (surprisingly though, where it’s a lot more difficult to eat Malaysian food). She’s been known to ramble on and on about science fiction, representations of women (and ethnicity) in science fiction, and how frustrating it is to specialise in behaviour change, so you should be careful in case she gets started. Stephanie really likes penguins.
Georgia is a vegaroo! contributor. She is a left wing vegetarian greenie gay pro-rights blogging environmental scientist with opinions, and a real weakness for puppies. She’s getting used to arguing about most of the former. She’s a mad keen baker for whom the conversion to veganism was a fun challenge. She lives in Sydney as sustainably as possible, with her vegan girlfriend, a great array of plants, and maybe one day a bunny.
Keira is a vegaroo! contributor. While she’s only been vegan this year, she is passionate about the cause and is thankful for the people who challenged her way of thinking. She loves creating in the kitchen, plushie making and reading comics. If you’re looking for her in Brisbane, you’ll most probably find her at the Mana Bar (new gaming bar in Brisbane) or the Loving Hut (vegan restaurant) sporting a new tattoo or a strange hair colour.
